D64/71/81 are not the only files that benefit from the ConGo Shell Extension - it is useful outside disk images too by showing you all details on C64-images, C64-archives and C64-sounds. Let’s start with images: no more boring file icons - Explorer will show you the actual content of a file as it’s icon. In the left Explorer pane, you see a preview. The infotip shows some image details:
If you prefer to see the big picture, you can have it in thumbnail mode:
Additionally, the extension provides you with image sensitive context menus:
If you select “properties” from the context menu, you can see the picture in full size:
Note the trackbar below the picture, you can use it to zoom in and out. So much about images - no about archives. The shell extension works very similar for them. You get infotip and preview:
You also get a new context menu:
and a property page showing the contents of the archive:
Finally, the shell extension provides you with a better overview on your C64 sounds:
and there’s a sound property page as well:
Last but not least there Explorer gives you a rough preview of every D64/71/81 without actually opening it. Look carefully at the file icon: it shows you how “full” a D64/71/81 is. In this way you can better look for empty space to save files to.
Also, you have info-bubbles and a preview in the left Explorer pane telling you disklabel, number of free blocks, number of files and the first few files on the disk:
