ConGo Plugins

Didn’t you always wish you could work with Commodore images in your favourite image editor - be it PhotoShop, PaintShop or whatever? That dream has now come true, with ConGo import/export/filter plugins for all PhotoShop plugin compatible programs.

News:

09/15/04 - I have upgraded the plugins again. Registered users will receive an e-mail with upgrade instructions. The screenshots below are now a bit outdated as some new features were added.

New in this C64 plugins version:

  • more file formats for import/export
  • new pixel-grid for filter plugin
  • new dither options for filter plugin
  • what once was the two-colour-filter can now be used with upto four colours
  • fixed several bugs
  • 05/20/04 - I have upgraded all the plugins so they benefit from the newest ConGo features. The screenshot below says more than a description could. For export, all modes can now be written to disk.

    (1) Activate Dithering
    (2) With this slider you can superimpose the original picture over the converted one to make comparisons easier
    (3) zoom into picture (you can drag the image around to see the different parts)
    (4) new: show a card raster
    (5) new: shows those cards with more than x colours in red (very useful for conversion to restriczed formats like multicolour)
    (6) new: status bar showing image type, number of colours, current pixel position of the mouse cursor, current card position, current IFLI colour index, current RGB colour values, current colour in C64 palette, current colour index to C64 palette, current colour index to GoDot C64 palette (from left)

    What you get:

  • Import plugin to read many popular Commdore formats (all those that ConGo understands) and even Schneider/Amstrad CPC and Sinclair Spectrum images.
  • Two export plugins to write a number of Commodore formats (dithered and non-dithered versions are supplied). Supported modes are the same as ConGo’s: IFLI, FLI, MCI, Multicolour,GoDot-4Bit, Hires
  • Filter plugin to apply typical Commodore image format restrictions to images you are working with in your image editor. Supported formats are: Interlaced FLI, Multicolour-Interlace, FLI, Multicolour, Hires, 4-Bit (GoDot), 2-colour-Hires. 16 (and less) colour modes support different Commodore palettes.
  • How to use it:

  • First put the congo.ini-file into the WINDOWS directory. From now on, all programs of the ConGo family will use this ini file. The advantage is that they can all access the very same image formats and palettes.
  • Then put the plugin files it in the /plugins-directory of your image editor - what you have to do specifically very much depends on the application. It might be required to separate the input, the output and the filter plugin to different directories. Currently, to use the export and filter plugins, you have to open a file with a bit depth > 8 first. Jpg and Bmp are fine, for Gif you have to manually increase bit depth first. Don’t worry, the files actually don’t have to have more than 256 colours, it’s just the bit depth that counts.
  • How to get it:

As I had to use a commercial Photoshop SDK, I cannot give away the plugins as I did with ConGo, ConGoSE and DemoAmp. The good thing is, with the small amount you might pay for the plugins you can even support further ConGo development. I can already tell you that I’m in the middle of a complete rewrite, ConGo 5 will be a very big step forward and already looks very promising. Of course, you can try out the plugins first, just download the free trial version. It is a complete version but puts an “unregistered” message into all converted pictures. If you like what you see, there are several options to pay:

  • use Paypal
  • send me an Amazon.de gift certificate (sorry, no Amazon.com certificates please)
  • use electronic wire transfer - I can send you my IBAN and account number by mail (ask at matting 1 matting 2 de - replace 1 with @ and 2 with .) This is the preferred option for people in the Euro zone as it is the cheapest way for both
  • The price I humbly ask for is 10 Euro (see here for current exchange rates).

In return for your payment you’ll get the full version, including all future updates. So there is no reason to wait with registration :)
